Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had a blighted ovum followed by D and C a few years ago. We are trying to conceive. When my periods got delayed, I did a home pregnancy test which suggested weakly positive test results. I also did an ultrasound where the report came as delayed periods with a functional follicular cyst of the left ovary with no evidence of pregnancy. Am I pregnant or not?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

I suggest you do a blood pregnancy test (serum beta human chorionic gonadotropin test) to confirm pregnancy, as the urine pregnancy test cannot detect very early pregnancy. If the beta HCG levels come between 5 to 50 milli-international units per milliliter, it means you are in the third week of pregnancy post-fertilization. An ultrasound scan is also unable to detect pregnancy in its early stage. In case of heavy bleeding, abdominal pain, and dizziness, I suggest you immediately consult a specialist.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.
