My girlfriend had her periods after the sexual act. Can she still be pregnant?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My girlfriend and I had sex. We only indulged in foreplay we did not have any intercourse. I tried to penetrate her but it was getting painful for her. We only did fingering and rubbing of the genitals and I did not put sperms inside her. I have no idea whether there has been precum inside her. Also, she has not had her period for two months. After this sexual activity, she took the I-pill Unwanted 72 for the first time, and also she is not on birth control pills. She had her periods just three days prior. I am scared if she is safe or not. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You had this sexual act just nine days before her periods. So, pregnancy is ruled out. She can still do the urine pregnancy test to comfort her curiosity.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

When I was rubbing her genitals for sexual pleasure, I am not sure if had any precum or sperm on my fingers. Also, as she had not had her periods for the last month, I was wondering if she was safe.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

As she has had her periods after the sexual event, she is safe and there is no risk of pregnancy. If you are very much keen and want to be very sure then you can do a urine pregnancy test.

Thank you.
