Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have been having a constant period for about four to five months. My general practitioner has had many tests done, and everything has come back clear. He has sent a referral for a specialist but said the appointment could take up to 12 weeks. I wanted to hear from someone sooner as I am worried about it. Also, I have been on the pill for the last three years. Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
You have been on combined oral contraceptive pills for the last three years, and you have had constant bleeding for three to four months. Oral contraceptives are hormones having side effects like irregular bleeding or spotting, venous thromboembolism, stroke, high blood pressure, etc. The body responds to hormones individually and differs a bit for every individual. Any of these side effects can occur in a female, which differs individually. I suggest you change your combined oral contraceptive pills with other contraceptives to be safer, as you have already used them for the last three years. I suggest you have Mirena (Levonorgestrel), a hormonal intrauterine device (IUD), as it gradually reduces cycles and then, in some women, stops after a year. Take iron supplements to reduce the risk of anemia. A good nutritious diet with less salt, sugar, and oil. Daily exercise and some recreational activities to have good physical and mental health. Get your blood test, thyroid function test, and complete blood count to exclude thyroid abnormalities and clotting disorders. I hope this helps you.
Thank you.
