How to treat a renal calculi with grade 1 prostatomegaly?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am having on and off episodes of red-colored urine with suprapubic pain. My ultrasound report shows renal calculi with mild dilated pelvicalyceal system and grade 1 prostatomegaly.

Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The reason for your red-colored urine might be an obstruction or stone. I suggest you do a complete urine analysis, urine culture, and a flexible cystoscopy to get a clear picture of your illness.

Regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

Can I attach my abdominal ultrasound reports?

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I already saw the report on your other query (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity). It seems like you have got a ureteric stone, and a CT (computed tomography) will be useful for the diagnosis. According to the size and position of the stone, we will suggest treatment options.

Regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

Ultrasound (USG) does not show ureteric stones but renal calculi. Is it because the USG has not picked up the ureteric stones? Or can renal calculi also be a cause of blood in urine?

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, the ultrasound will not show the ureteric stones. The cause is mainly obstruction, and renal stones do not usually cause pain.

Thanks.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

Is a plain CT sufficient, or CECT KUB is needed?Regards.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

As for stones, plain CT KUB (kidneys ureter bladder) without contrast is sufficient.

Regards.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

I will do a CT KUB.

Thanks.
