Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I just noticed that my baby girl has a red spot (bloody) on the lower white of her eye. She does not have any fever, and she generally looks well. However, she was born premature and had ROP (which was regularly checked whilst she was in the hospital). She was diagnosed with ROP II in Zone II with plus disease. They gave her an injection of Ranibizumab, and they said ROP was no longer progressing. We have been at home for almost four weeks now, so they have not checked it since. My baby also came home on oxygen (0.2 L/m), but now she does not need oxygen during the day, only when she sleeps. Her current medication includes multivitamins. Could it be a drop in her blood pressure? Do you think this could be related to her ROP? Do you think this needs a medical emergency? Please guide.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern. I have seen the picture you sent (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity).Your baby has a subconjunctival hemorrhage. It can occur in infants. It will get absorbed by itself. But as your baby is preterm with ROP (retinopathy of prematurity), it is always better to visit an ophthalmologist at the earliest. I suggest you watch for the increasing size of the red spot and the baby's behavior (irritable or agitated). I hope you are satisfied with the answer. Thank you and take care.
