Patient's Query

Hi doctor, I am a healthy 29-year-old male. I am married. I do not have a child. My semen analysis report is normal. I have pus cells around 10 to 12 HPF. Is this normal? Kindly suggest.
Hi, Welcome to icliniq.com. I understand your concern. A semen analysis is advised when couples have problems in getting conceived. This test helps a doctor to determine whether a man is infertile. This also helps to determine whether low sperm count or sperm dysfunction is the cause that lies behind infertility. It is necessary to avoid ejaculation for 24 to 72 hours before doing test to have a good semen sample. Avoid taking alcohol, caffeine, and illicit drugs for two to five days before doing the test. Avoid taking hormone medications. Some factors can negatively affect the result. The factors are illness, stress, laboratory technician error, and contamination of samples. A normal semen analysis should lie between 20 million to 200 million with more than 50 percent of motile sperms. Having white blood cells in semen is normal. But presence of more pus cells indicates infection and presence of high white blood cells in semen is an indicator of infection. This condition is marked by the presence of more pus cells in semen. It is referred to as pyospermia. Having a small number of WBC are a normal constituent of semen. Patients are considered non-pyospermic when WBC concentration remains below 5 per high power field (HPF). There are some studies reporting pyospermia as one of the causes of male infertility. I suggest you consult a urologist and take appropriate medications.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
