What are the chances of pregnancy with a low sperm count?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I cannot understand the semen analysis report. The liquefaction time is 30 minutes, and the duration of abstinence is four days. The semen appearance is creamy white, and the volume is 4.0 ml. The pH is 8, and fructose is present. The motility is 100 percent. The spermatozoa have 20 percent with rapid motility, 10 percent with slow motility, 5 percent with non-progressive motility, and 83 percent are immotile. The vitality count is 15 million. The morphology shows 20 percent normal and 80 percent abnormal.

Please advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concerns about the semen analysis report.

Based on the semen analysis report (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity) provided, you have a very low sperm count, and a significant proportion of the sperm present is defective. Approximately 80 percent of your sperm are abnormal, and the concentration is only 15 million per ml, which is considered very low.

Given these results, the chances of natural pregnancy are low due to the reduced number and quality of the sperm. I recommend that you consult with your doctor to discuss potential treatments to improve sperm health.

I hope this information is helpful.

Thank you.
