What are the sinusitis signs on X-ray imaging?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had a cough with yellow mucus for a few weeks now, along with what I presume a stuffy nose. A few days back I was given an antibiotic for it. The problem I am dealing with apart from the cough, is night sweats.

I have performed multiple tests today, results are attached but the summary is that total WBC, neutrophils and ESR values are raised above normal whereas lymphocytes have declined. The radiologist's X-ray report says that the chest is clear but the maxillary sinuses are hazy. What do these numbers mean? Should I be concerned? I would really appreciate a prompt reply, anxiety is killing me.

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your symptoms, and I also went through your laboratory investigations (attachment removed to protect patient identity). It shows an increased neutrophil count, and yourhemoglobinlooks normal. What I feel is that you are having sinusitis. So, in that infection of the sinus, people get similar symptoms, which are what you have.

So, coming to the management part, I would advise you to go for steam inhalation. You just have to inhale hot steam vapor from boiling water. I want you to take these medications:

  1. Fexofenadine 120 milligrams once at night for five days.
  2. Paracetamol 650 three times a day for five days.
  3. Amoxicillin-Clavulanate 650 twice daily for five days.
  4. Pantocid 40 milligrams twice daily for five days.

With these medications, we should feel better, and the symptoms should subside. If you still continue to have the same symptoms, you should seek medical attention from ENT specialist.

I hope that this answers your query.

Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.
