Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have had chronic acne for the past ten years and recently I have been prescribed Spironolactone. I am taking 50 mg of Spironolactone once daily as prescribed. Currently, I am also on Methylphenidate. According to my prescription label, after four weeks, I am recommended to start taking two pills daily. Is it fine to start taking two pills daily after only three weeks of beginning the medication, or is it recommended to wait for four weeks?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. As advised by your doctor, the Spironolactone tablet is to be used once daily for four weeks as per the history provided from your end, and I would like to advise you the same. It takes time for our body to get used to a specific dosage before increasing or tapering it slowly and consistently, which applies to most medications. Therefore, it is essential to follow your doctor's advice. As per your doctor's advice, the current dosage is to be taken for four whole weeks and later it should be taken twice daily. I would advise you to converse with your doctor after the completion of four weeks regarding the next set of dosages to be taken and clear any doubts before starting them. I hope to be of help. Stay healthy and safe.
