Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am in my second cycle of period and I find spotting (light grey blood) for the first time. I am not using any family planning method. I have always had regular periods before. I have a mild headache. My acne is really bad at the moment. What could be the problem?

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

Spotting, which is light vaginal bleeding that occurs between periods, can have several causes. Some possible reasons for your spotting include:

1. Hormonal changes: Spotting can occur during ovulation or just before your period starts due to fluctuations in the hormone levels.

2. Infection: A vaginal infection, such as bacterial vaginosis or a yeast infection, can cause spotting.

3. Cervical changes: If you have recently had sex or a pelvic exam, it is possible that the cervix is still healing, which can cause spotting.

4. Pregnancy: Spotting can be an early sign of pregnancy, but it is more common to experience implantation bleeding, which is light spotting that occurs around the time of implantation (when the fertilized egg attaches to the uterus).

5. Medical conditions: Certain medical conditions, such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or endometriosis, can cause spotting. I suggest getting a blood test and ultrasound done. At least a pap smear should be done.

I hope this information will help you. Please revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.
