Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My son is having loose motion since last four days. Our doctor gave Rantac, Nutrolin B, and Cyclopam. Till three days his stool was watery but today we observed blood in that and is experiencing acute pain while having loose motion. After that, our doctor suggested giving a half tablet of Lopro and 6 ml Oxaflo 100. After giving this, his loose motion has stopped. But, he is complaining about stomach pain and headache. Please suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand the situation you are facing. Stomach pain and headache could be related to the infection. Continue giving Cyclopam (Dicyclomine) for stomach ache and Paracetamol for a headache. Also give lots of liquid for proper hydration. If not getting relief with these measures, consult your doctor for reevaluation and further management.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

But I have read that Lopro tablet should not be given if there is blood in the stool and even with an antibiotic. Did we make mistake by giving Lopro along with Oxaflo 100?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, you are correct. Lopro (an anti-motility agent that decreases bowel movements) should not be given in loose stools caused by infections. So, you can discontinue Lopro since your son is having stomach pain and continue giving antibiotic, Cyclopam and Paracetamol. If not relieved or developing new symptoms like vomiting, distension of tummy, becoming lethargic and dull, not taking any food, fits episodes, decrease in passing urine, etc., please consult nearby pediatrician immediately.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
