Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

For the past three days, I am noticing that my bowel color is pale or clay color. I do not have a fever or loose motion. I have mild cramp in my lower stomach also. Please note that I had gastritis issue few months back and had taken medication. Could you please answer my questions? Is this something serious issue with liver or gallbladder? I have read that it is a serious issue if bowel color is pale or clay color. Is this related to the same? Is it related to gastritis issue? Is it related to cirrhosis? Please advise.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

A pale stool is one of the normal variants of stool, though it occurs infrequently. If persistent it indicates an obstruction in the biliary tree leading to stasis of the bilirubin in the liver and causing stool pale. We should think about hepatitis or obstruction of the biliary system at a different level. If this is physiological, it will improve without any specific intervention.

It may or may not be serious, I explained above. It depends on the cause of the pale stool. It is a normal variant or related to biliary disorders. Initially it may not be associated with cirrhosis, later on, in case of long-standing obstruction of the biliary tree, it may cause.

The Probable causes

Physiological, acute hepatitis, extrahepatic biliary obstruction.

Investigations to be done

Liver function test, complete blood count, amylase, ultrasound abdomen.

Treatment plan

Continue normal diet. Review back with reports.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

All the reports belong to previous months. You have symptoms of recent onset. We need present assessment. Previous investigations do not suggest anything. Kindly review back with latest investigations.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
