Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Recently, I got my full body check-up done. The TSH levels came out to be 8.07 mIU/L. For the first time, I got abnormal TSH levels and I have never taken any medicine to regulate TSH levels.

I only have a weight gain issue.

Is it necessary to start medicine for this?

I have also been taking the tablet Amlopres 5 for high BP for the last eight years. However, now my BP was 120/80 mmHg.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thanks for your query. I can understand your concern.

According to your statement; you have recently got thyroid function tests done and your TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) levels were found to be 8.07 mU/L, which is above the normal range.

However; when only TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) levels are elevated but T3 (triiodothyronine) and T4 (thyroxine) levels are within normal limits, then this condition is called subclinical hypothyroidism. Usually; people who have no symptoms of hypothyroidism and only have elevated TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) levels, do not require any medical treatment. If TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) levels are above 10 mIU/L, then hypothyroidism prescription is required. Other predisposing factors, like the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases, require thyroid medication in case of elevated TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) levels. You can repeat your thyroid function tests after one to three months and can act accordingly.

In case of any other queries, you can ask me.

Take care.
