Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My leg and ankle have been swollen for about three weeks. There are times it becomes normal, but I noticed that every time I am exhausted, the leg swelling increases, making it difficult for me to walk. I also wake up with difficulty in breathing, and my hands tend to go numb if I sleep in one position for even 30 minutes. I got some test done, and I am attaching the reports. But, I need more advice regarding other tests that need to be done.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I just read your query and the detailed reports, which you have attached (attachment removed to protect patient identity). It appears that you have dependent pedal edema, which means, that after prolonged exertion and continuously being on your feet for long hours, it causes fluid to accumulate in the most dependent part of your body, as in your case your feet. It is the body's normal response to exertion. My suggestion would be to elevate your feet frequently. Also, I would advise you to cut down on your salt intake from all sources. Avoid junk food which has excess salt in them. As for your sleep, it looks like you have obstructive sleep apnea, which means, your breathing pattern is changed due to either excessive stress or you sleep too deeply because you might be too tired. I suggest that you avoid eating three hours before bedtime. Sleep with two or more pillows. Try relaxation therapy like meditation or yoga, to relax your mind and body or simply walk for 30 minutes daily to increase the endurance of your body. Your hands go numb when you sleep in one position, because your body presses on the nerves of your hands for too long and because you are in deep sleep you do not realize it early and so there is numbness. I suggest that you take tablet Neurobion forte (Vitamin B complex with Vitamin B12) for the nerves. Thank you and take care. Regards.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thanks for the response. If you could please suggest some tests that I can take for further clarification. I shared my test reports with you, which I took three weeks back.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
You have already done a lot of investigations and they are just three weeks old, so I would not ask you to do any more tests. Thank you and take care. Regards
