Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 37-year-old male suffering from swelling in both legs for a month. I had heart failure three years ago and was hospitalized for six weeks. I discontinued my treatment a few days back. My last checkup was done last year. Until now, I did not go for a checkup. I am taking Ketoanalogue, Clopidogrel, Carvedilol 12.5 mg, and Amlodipine 10 mg. How to manage the swelling in my legs? Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. As you have a history of heart failure, this can explain swelling in the legs. But the medicine Amlodipine you are taking is known to cause leg swelling. You should consult your cardiologist and get echocardiography done to determine heart status. Amlodipine can be replaced by other anti-hypertensive drugs to avoid leg swelling. You can massage your legs in salt water for 10 to 15 minutes twice daily, which would help with the swelling, or diuretics can be added to reduce the swelling. It would be better if you consult with your cardiologist. I hope this information will work. Thanks.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
