Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I just got a temporary filling today for my upper molar tooth. The dentist cleaned my canals as a part of the root canal treatment and then placed the filling. It felt and looked fine, he shaved it down some more to make it right.
After some time, although I did not eat anything (only drank cold or warm drinks) I started noticing some shifting of the filling material to the side of the tooth, and now a piece of it has fallen off. It has been seven hours since the filling was done, and I would greatly appreciate it if you could tell me what this means.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have read through your complaint and the relevant details.
The filling material placed usually after the root canal treatment would be a temporary white-colored one. If that is the case, I would like to say you that this type of filling material is not strong enough and tend to chip and break down in pieces when overpacked and dissolve in oral fluids. Even when the whole filling comes out, you can get it done again. Also, I would like to add that your treatment will have another two steps of tooth shaping and crown placement if I am not wrong.
Please talk with your dentist regarding your complete treatment plan.
If you have more queries regarding root canal treatment please write again.
Thanks.
