Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

A spot rose on my thigh near to groin. I consulted with a dermatologist. The doctor diagnosed it with tinea crusis and advised ten tablets of Sizzle once a day and 30 tablets of Funge 250 mg once a day, and a Canix-H cream to be applied on the affected areas.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. I reviewed the picture attached (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). Yes, it is tinea cruris spreading to involve your thighs. The medication prescribed by your dermatologist is perfect for tinea. Follow the treatment regimen. I want to mention a few crucial skin care tips to follow during tinea infections and medications. You can also read my published article on icliniq.com. Tinea - Crucial do's: Wear dry loose cotton clothes. Try to find inner garments which are 100 % pure cotton. Use fans or air conditioners at night to keep the affected part well-ventilated. Take a bath twice a day. Always use lukewarm water. Avoid using boiling water. Hot water favors fungal growth in the body. Wash the affected parts with cold water once you are done taking a bath. Always use a fresh dry towel to wipe off water from the body. Make sure skin folds are dry before wearing clothes. Use antifungal dusting powders for skin folds such as underarms, thigh folds, below breasts, and between the toes. Wash your clothes, towel, and bedspread in hot water and dry them in good sunlight. Eat healthy food, and keep your body weight ideal for your height because being overweight or underweight leads to reduced immunity, increasing the chances of acquiring a fungal infection. If you have diabetes, check your blood sugar level frequently and ensure your blood sugars are within the normal range because uncontrolled blood sugar is a risk factor for fungal infection. Ask if any of your family members have a similar fungal infection. If so, encourage them to take treatment. Check your pet animals for rashes. If there are any, take them to a veterinary doctor for treatment. Dogs and cats are also sources of infection. Always complete the full course of medications prescribed by your dermatologist. Incomplete treatment results in the recurrence of fungal infection, which is more resistant to treatment. Tinea (ringworm): Crucial do not's: Do not scratch. Scratching makes the rash worse. Instead, ask your dermatologist to prescribe anti-itching medicine. Do not wear synthetic clothes or tight-fitting jeans which do not allow air to flow through them, and do not wear wet inner garments. Do not wear inner while at home. Just allow air to flow freely through the affected part. Do not share items such as clothes, towels, soap, or combs with your family or friends. Do not use over-the-counter (OTC) medications for ringworm. Most of these OTC creams contain steroids, which give faster relief from itching, but they make the ringworm spread to a larger area and make the routine treatment insufficient. Do not use home remedies such as garlic paste to get rid of ringworm. This could burn your skin and leave a permanent scar.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
