Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have got tonsillitis. My tonsils have been swollen for four days, and I had a high fever. They have little white spots that I have managed to clean with warm salt water and my neck glands are also swollen.

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern. According to your symptoms, this is most likely infectious mononucleosis, which is a viral infection and gets cured on its own. Your neck lymph nodes are enlarged due to the same thing. I suggest you get these tests done:

1. Rapid strep test.

2. Anti-VCA (viral capsid antigen) IgM antibody for infectious mononucleosis.

I also suggest you to consult a specialist doctor, discuss with them, and take medications with their consent. Do warm salt water gargles every four hours. For throat aches, you can use Benzydamine mouthwash one tablespoon thrice a day. Take the tablet Paracetamol for fever. If the pain is still there, you can use Ibuprofen.

Take preventive measures which are as follows:

  1. Do not drink cold water or other cold drinks.
  2. Take proper rest.
  3. Drink 10 cups of water daily.

I hope this infomation will help.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
