Hi doctor,
I have a decaying tooth, and there is a hole in it. I am in immense pain. However, it is not coming from the tooth. The pain arises from my gums. I feel like there is a swelling in my gums, and it hurts badly. The gums are so sensitive, and the pain is in the top and bottom parts of the gums in the upper and lower left side of my mouth. I have not been able to sleep in the last four days. I have maybe gotten 30 minutes of sleep. I have a fever, and the swelling in my jaw keeps increasing and spreading. Also, I underwent root canal treatment for a few teeth and have caps on them. What could be the reason?
Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I went through your query and understood your concern.
According to the history of the illness provided, it seems like a deep tooth decay associated with a swelling in the surrounding gum region. The signs and symptoms you mentioned also confirm it. Because of the deep infection, you cannot sleep and also get chills. However, I suggest you take the tablet Ketorol DT (Ketorolac Tromethamine) 10 mg thrice daily for three days for pain relief. And, for immediate pain relief, you can crush the tablet in half a glass of water and drink it. This helps pain relief in 15 minutes. But this is not going to cure the tooth abscess. You might have to take antibiotics as well. So I suggest you visit a dentist on an emergency appointment to check the status of the tooth and the treatment plan for the same. Antibiotics, along with active dental treatment, are essential for a complete cure of this.
I hope this has helped you out.
Take care.
