Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I started experiencing pain in my jaws two days ago due to the eruption of the lower left wisdom tooth. I cannot open my mouth due to the pain in the wisdom tooth. I also have sensitivity in the same tooth when I drink water. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. The age of eruption of wisdom teeth is from 17 to 21 years. Therefore, this pain could be mostly an eruption pain. I suggest you do warm saline mouth rinses to manage pain or take mild painkillers like Paracetamol (consult a specialist doctor, discuss with them, and take medications with their consent). However, if the pain becomes unmanageable and increases gradually, it is highly likely to be caused by an impacted wisdom tooth. Since they are the last ones to erupt, most of them do not get enough space. Sometimes, the surrounding structures like the ear and throat also pain. This wisdom tooth is called an impacted tooth. In that case, please visit a nearby dentist and get an X-ray of your wisdom tooth to check whether there is enough space for it to erupt.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
