Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

A dentist said I have an infected wisdom tooth and gave me antibiotics; however, the pain is not in my wisdom tooth and is coming from another tooth. It has been more than 24 hours, and antibiotics are not working. Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Antibiotics are meant to reduce infection and not pain. It would be best if you were prescribed painkillers in that case, along with antibiotics. Also, you cannot expect any drug to do a miracle in 24 hours. You must finish the course of five to seven days of antibiotics for it to work effectively. You mentioned that you feel some other tooth is infected, not the wisdom tooth. So, I would suggest visiting the dentist again and letting them know about this.

Meanwhile, for the pain, I would suggest tablet Ketorol 10 mg dispersed in half a glass of water and drinking it. The pain will be relieved within 20 minutes. Then continue the tablet orally thrice daily for three days with other antibiotics.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
