Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had a pulp infection and went for root canal treatment for a lower left side tooth before three to four days. The procedure was done well and the pain in my tooth is all gone. However, since yesterday the root canal treated tooth became sensitive to hot water though I did not have this symptom during the time when it was infected and before root canal was done. In summary before root canal, tooth was very painful but no sensitivity to hot water. After root canal, pain was all gone but now sensitive to hot water. I would like to know why this happens.

Please answer.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

There is always a post-operative sensitivity after an RCT (Root canal treatment). There are many reasons for that, including a post-operative infection, trauma during eating, or dislodgement of temporary restoration, and the most probable being a biting pressure. I would suggest an X-ray of the affected tooth and antibiotics (tablet Amoxicillin 500 mg) thrice a day for three days, tablet Acelofenac (painkiller), and desensitizing toothpaste that needs to be applied on the tooth for one month.

Kindly update me if you do not have any relief.

Take care.
