Is a TSH level of 6.34 mIU/mL normal?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have got my TSH level checked. It is 6.34 mIU/mL, whereas the normal range is from 2 to 5.5 mIU/mL. Is that normal? Currently, I am taking Ayurvedic medicine for digestion.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Your TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) is slightly high. I advise rechecking the TSH along with free T4 (free thyroxine) and anti-TPO (anti-thyroid peroxidase) antibodies. Is there any family history of thyroid disease? Are there any symptoms related to thyroid diseases, like fatigue, weight gain, constipation, or cold intolerance? Your vitamin D level is also low, so please take vitamin D supplements, like 60,000 units weekly for eight weeks, followed by 2000 units daily, after consulting your doctor.
Kindly revert for further queries.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
There is no family history, and neither I have any symptoms of thyroid disease. I would like to know whether a deficiency of vitamin D affects the TSH level.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
It is hard to say if the low vitamin D had an effect on the TSH levels. Although not directly, it may have an indirect impact by affecting immunity. So restore the vitamin D level, and recheck TSH, free T4, and anti-TPO antibody.
Thank you.
