Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My 75-year-old father has been diagnosed with TB. We came to know about this 15 days ago. We consulted a doctor who has given the medicine in the intensive phase for the initial stage, two tablets per day and suggested a six-month course. The doctor assured us that it could be curable with proper medicines. Is it a curable disease? Is there any medicinal spray that kills bacteria or germs that spread in the air when the patient coughs, sneezes, or speaks?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Yes, it is curable, and the majority of patients are cured. However some patients may develop a resistant form of tuberculosis, but this is a minority. Care should be taken that the course should be completed and should never be defaulted as default will increase the risk of resistance. There is no spray available as such. Mask should be given to patients and relatives, if possible, for atleast 2 to 3 weeks from the day of initiation of medications.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
