Patient's Query

Hello,

I am a 53-year-old male, 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing 164 pounds. I have type 2 diabetes without medication. Typically, my A1C hovers around 5.4, but this summer, I lost 12 pounds through training and recently gained it all back. Upon testing, my A1C has now lowered to 5.0. Should I consider losing the 12 pounds again to maintain the lower A1C, or is my usual level of 5.4 satisfactory?

Thank you for your guidance.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concerns.

For your height, an ideal weight falls between 165 to 176 pounds. In the general population, an HbA1c (hemoglobin A1c) of less than 5.7 is considered normal, and for diabetics, maintaining levels below 6 is advisable. Your usual level of 5.4 is excellent. I suggest you focus on managing diabetes through lifestyle changes, and your commitment to exercise and a healthy diet is commendable. As long as your HbA1c remains below 6, there is no need to worry. Keep up with your good practices.

Take care.
