Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 29 year old. My doctor said that I have an umbilical hernia. Either open surgery or laparoscopy, which would be the best? After which surgery, can I lift heavy weights? I am a sports person and a bodybuilder. Please suggest.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com. If your cardiovascular status that is heart and lung functions are fine, then laparoscopic surgery is a recommended option as it offers cosmetic benefits and is less invasive compared to open surgery. With laparoscopy, the scar will be smaller, reducing the chances of scar rupture and dehiscence, which are more common in open procedures. Additionally, laparoscopic surgery may allow for better prospects of engaging in strenuous exercise in the future. However, it is standard procedure to obtain consent for open surgery whenever laparoscopy is chosen, ensuring that all possible scenarios are considered and discussed with the patient.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
