Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 70 years old and a chronic diabetic patient. My diabetes was under control (injections), but in the past three days, it has fluctuated around 350 to 400 mmol/L, but today, after breakfast, it is 454 mmol/L. Please guide me immediately.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I just read your query, and from what you have mentioned, it appears that you have high blood sugar levels. It is a result of the high glycemic index of the food intake over a period of time that you have this high blood sugar. It would have been better to mention the insulin dose, what type of insulin you take and when it needs urgent adjustment. I suggest you visit the nearest ER and have your urine dipstick done whether you have Glucose or ketones in your urine, and then you might need an insulin drip with IV fluids in the emergency room.

Considering your age, I suggest you go to the emergency room immediately. Once your emergency situation is dealt with, I can guide you further.

I hope you find my advice of some benefit. Good luck.

Thank you.
