Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 46 years old. I am losing weight continuously without any cause. Last year my weight was 154 lbs, and now it is 134 lbs. Ultrasound report and all other tests like liver function and diabetes are normal. Please guide me.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Rapid weight loss can be because of a chronic illness such as tuberculosis.

1. Your physical examination should first be done for further investigation.

2. Hyperthyroidism also should be ruled out.

3. History of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus), if suspicious, also should be checked.

4. I suggest checking your thyroid status by serum TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) estimation, chest X-ray for tuberculosis lymph nodes palpation, and serum ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) testing for HIV can be done.

5. Excess stress and depression also should be ruled out.

6. Celiac disease should be ruled out if you have chronic abdominal bloating and diarrhea.

I hope this helps.

Thanks and take care.
