Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Within the last couple of weeks, I had noticed an irritation around the urethra opening of my penis. I went to get tested for any STIs (sexually transmitted infection), and they came back negative. After a week, the irritation around the urethra opening had gone away, but I noticed a small part of the very tip had gotten a little red, and a small amount of skin in that area had swollen. Since this is not an STI or STD (sexually transmitted disease), I am confused about what it could be and if I should see a urologist.

Please answer.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for consulting us at icliniq.com.

No need to worry, and actually, I am a urologist. What should be done is no treatment. The meatus is usually sensitive and can be irritated by even lubricants, soaps, or shampoos. Irritation can be non-infectious, and you already got tested for STD (sexually transmitted disease); that is more than sufficient. Try to change the soap to a milder one like baby soap or soap for sensitive skin, and do not use lubricants. Keep the area dry and clean. That is all. Kindly follow up if you have more queries.

Thanks and regards.
