Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have had problems with urine frequency due to stress, but last week I had severe burning sensation and pain, consulted a doctor and was diagnosed with UTI. The pus cells were 20 to 25, the CRP was 188 mg/L, and I had e.coli bacteria. Even the PSA level was 7.55 ng/mL. The doctor prescribed antibiotics for a week and extended them to ten days. Now I do not have any symptoms apart from a slight burning sensation. Kindly help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understand your concern. A male's UTI (urinary tract infection) requires investigations to know the reason, and it starts with an ultrasound with a post-void scan and uroflowmetry for assessment. White blood cells and pus cells in urine mean it is inflammation and not UTI. UTI is diagnosed on urine culture only, not urine analysis. Therefore, I suggest you have a urine culture and ultrasound. Now, after antibiotics, I believe that you have recovered from prostatitis rather than from UTI, and for further treatment, I would suggest anti-inflammatory medication like: Tablet Celecoxib 200 mg twice daily for a month. You can also take a supplement once daily for three months.
I hope this will resolve the issue.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for your reply.
The urine culture came positive with E.coli, and the ultrasound was normal.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Then I would suggest uroflowmetry as UTI in males is unusual and should be worked out to get the diagnosis causing it. As the ultrasound is normal, there might be an issue with the flow and the bladder outlet.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
