Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
My girlfriend just got out of birth control after me having a vasectomy (two months post operation). She has very irregular periods (30-40 days long cycles) since she stopped birth control three months ago (been using condoms). This month she had huge pain before and during ovulation. She felt the cramps was like hitting with a football. She has never experienced this before. She took some ovulation test and three days after positive test, she got very tender and sore breasts. A few days after that, she was sensitive to smell and had a runny nose. We expect period to arrive in five days but today she got a light pink discharge. Can it be implantation bleeding? Is it possible to have pregnancy symptoms before that happens? Took a pregnancy test same day but it was negative. Is this because of the hormones? Kindly help.
Thanks.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Thanks for writing in, and I understand your concern. With the use of barrier contraceptives, like a condom, the chances of getting pregnant are very less. The light pinkish spotting can be due to hormonal imbalance, vaginal infection, or cervical erosion. I need to know the last menstrual period details for better assessment.
Kindly reply.
Regards.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
Her last period started 28 days back.
Thanks.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Repeat urine pregnancy test after a week as she has a history of irregular periods. If she has pain now and is unbearable affecting her daily routine, we need to examine for other underlying causes like UTI (urinary tract infection), abdominal infection, etc. In such a situation, I suggest seeing a doctor.
Regards.
