Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am coming to the end of my period and have noticed internal vaginal irritation or mild itching at the last day. Also, I am only bleeding when I wipe, and no blood is on my pads anymore. I am on the pill, so my periods are usually very consistent, but I have not had this before. Is this abnormal? After spotting last year, I had a smear test, swabs taken, and internal ultrasound done, which were all clear. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Oral contraceptive pills can have some effects on the body that differ from person to person according to physiology. For example, itching can be due to infection, an allergy to tampons, any fabric, locally used cosmetics, undergarments, food, or worm infestation.

1. After periods, have a warm water sitz bath, avoid cosmetics locally, use a razor to remove hair, and follow it up with olive oil application locally.

2. Avoid suspected substances or cosmetics, or shampoo.

3. I suggest you take an anti-allergy tablet, Piriton 4 mg (Chlorphenamine maleate) once a night for 3 to 5 days. However, please consult a physician, discuss with them, and start taking the medications with their consent.

4. Follow strict hygiene and use soft undergarments. If itching continues, you need to check the discharge's color and then a high vaginal swab to treat the infection accordingly.

Hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.
