What could be the reason for sudden voice change in a 50-year-old female?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am an elderly woman., I am on Pantoprazole and Topiramate both twice a day. My symptoms have persisted for at least a year. I am unable to sing and my voice is different.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

There are many potential causes of voice changes, including vocal cord nodules or polyps, acid reflux, laryngitis, upper respiratory tract infections, thyroid issues, or neurological conditions. Pantoprazole (antacid) is a proton pump inhibitor medication that is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), which can contribute to voice changes. Topiramate is an anticonvulsant medication that is used to treat seizures, migraines, and other conditions, but it is not typically associated with voice changes as a side effect.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.
