Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My daughter, who is turning eight next week, has had a few bouts of vomiting in the recent weeks. A few weeks ago, it was accompanied by fever, and it was over within 48 hours. Now, before two days she threw up again without fever. We put her on a bland diet for 24 hours and yesterday she went back to eat normally and threw up again. Should I visit her pediatrician today or try to keep her on bland for 48 hours? Her birthday party is in two days, and I want her to be healthy for it. Any of your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concerns.

  1. Vomiting in a seven year old child can be due to a stomach infection, acute gastroenteritis, and acidity.
  2. In my opinion, I suggest her antiemetic syrup like syrup Emeset 1 teaspoon (Ondansetron) in an empty stomach three times a day for one day. Give her soft diet and avoid food from outside.
  3. If there is no improvement in 24 hours, then an examination by the doctor should be done, so that we may not miss any significant finding.
  4. Also, if symptoms persist, then antibiotic needs to be started.
