What causes sores and non-scrapable film on the tongue?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have a white film on my tongue that can never be completely scrubbed off. My tongue bleeds in patches when using a tongue brush. It hurts as if when you suck on something too sour and gives your tongue a burning sensation. I have a mouth sore on the cheek part of my left canine tooth. There are bumps on the very back of my tongue, three white bumps on each side. They are painless but have been there for months and have not subsided. I went to the dentist a few months ago, and there was no proper solution.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I thoroughly read your query and understand your concern.

You may have inflammation of the tongue which should go away in two weeks. Following are my suggestions for your problem:

  1. Do not touch the tongue with a brush or anything, and allow it some time to heal.
  2. Avoid hot, cold, or spicy food and also snack items.
  3. Use warm salt water gargle twice a day.
  4. White area is a reaction to the inflammation. It will go away in a few weeks.

Hope this has addressed your query.

Thank you.
