I am 51. How to treat my travel-related allergic symptoms?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 51-year-old male. I have been allergic to something for five months. Whenever I leave my city, sometimes I get skin rashes, mouth, and throat sores. It occurs mainly while traveling.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through the report (attachment removed to protect patient's identity). There are two issues.

First is the diagnosis of allergy.

  1. What exactly are your symptoms?
  2. Are the complaints mainly skin and mouth-related?
  3. Is there any breathing difficulty, cough, nose block, sneezing, or runny nose?

Second is the test used. A comprehensive blood allergy profile is only 50 to 60 percent accurate. We depend on skin prick allergy testing for accurate results. If the allergy diagnosis is confirmed clinically, we can suggest a skin prick allergy test.

As per your report, you have allergies to various goods and aeroallergens. The most significant aeroallergens on your list are dust mites, dog dandruff, and sawdust. The only way to avoid these is by taking immunotherapy (a method of treatment where the immune system is activated or suppressed to treat a condition). The serum vitamin D level should be normal for optimum relief from mouth sores and skin issues.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please let me know if you need any help.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My main complaint is about the mouth, throat, or skin. I do not have sneezing and breathing problems. However, difficulty while swallowing is present.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

I suggest you take allergy vaccines for these allergens. That will give you lasting relief from the problems.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please let me know if you need any help.

Thank you.
