Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a wisdom tooth in the lower back region of my mouth. I have a cut in my gums close to the wisdom tooth, and the tooth is starting to turn brown. I brush my teeth regularly, but there is a foul smell. Why does my mouth smell? How to prevent my mouth from smelling?

Answered by Dr. Honey Nandwani

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and understand your concern.

If your tooth is turning brown, it could be due to decay in your tooth, leading to a bad smell. I would suggest you consult a dentist and get evaluated. In case of decay, the tooth has to be treated with filling or root canal treatment, depending on the tooth's condition. Bad smell can be masked, but to resolve it, the cause has to be treated.

I hope this helps.

Thanks and regards.

Investigations to be done

Take an X-ray of the tooth.

Preventive measures

To mask bad smells, gargle with flavored antiseptic mouthwash or chew flavored sugar-free chewing gum.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
