Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 24-year-old girl and I weigh 99 lbs and my height is 5 feet. My period is regular every time. I had my last period 20 days back and it lasted for six days. I had unprotected sex the very next day but it was not successful since we did not do it great and my partner did not cum inside me. As a precaution, I took I-pill before 12 hours and on the next day we tried again with a condom, and we were not much successful this time also.

But a week back I suffered from food poisoning, and I had vomiting and loose motions. Along with that, I saw bleeding but not the regular one that I get during periods, and today I am still seeing traces of blood coming out. I am worried about this. Should I be concerned or is it a side effect of taking I-pill? Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Yes, you are right. It is because of I-pill. It is called withdrawal bleeding and your period can be irregular for the next two to three cycles. Kindly drink more water. You need not worry since it is not pregnancy.

Do get back if you have any further queries.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Today, I have a feverish sensation. I can see small traces of bleeding. Is it normal or should I be worried? Can I take the Paracetamol tablet now or not? Please help.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The fever sensation may be due to food poisoning. And if fever is there, then you have to take the tablet Paracetamol as primary treatment. Traces of bleeding is due to disturbed menses. In case of more doubt, do a urine pregnancy test after 20 days, and if positive, then you are pregnant and if negative then it is disturbed menses. Take ORS (oral rehydration solution) powder if loose motion is there. You may have to take the tablet Metronidazole for three days but consult a nearby doctor before taking treatment for food poisoning. Do not get dehydrated. Maintain your hydration. Periods can be disturbed for two to three cycles.

I hope I have resolved your queries. Do get back if you have any further queries.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

The bleeding at the initial stage was red and now the bleeding is mild, and the color is reddish brown. Can that be implantation bleeding? I have read that implantation bleeding is also reddish brown. Please help me in finding the difference between implantation and withdrawal bleeding.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Glad to have you back.

I told you before that it cannot be said just by looking at the bleeding. Bleeding can be brown in color if blood remains for a long time in the uterus before it comes out. So, it is very difficult to say whether it is implantation bleeding or withdrawal bleeding. The difference is that mostly implantation bleeding occurs after 15 to 20 days of sex and withdrawal bleeding mostly occurs within 10 days. But it is not always right. The best option is to check using a urine pregnancy test. If positive, then bleeding is related to pregnancy and if negative, then it is related to other things like I-pills. Food poisoning along with this is the most likely cause of abdominal pain. But the best way to confirm is to wait for 20 days and do a urine pregnancy test to alleviate all doubts. Do not be stressed since stress can also delay your menses.

Thank you.
