Can the pain in the wrist after a fall be due to broken bone, fracture or hypertension?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I fell on my wrist when I tried to stop a fall while playing basketball. It was sore last night and there was no swelling or bruising. It hurts more today. Is this a broken bone, fracture, or hyperextension? What recommendations do you have?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

I recommend you get an X-ray of the affected wrist joint AP (anteroposterior) and lateral views.Till then, you can wear a wrist brace. This will give some support. You need to take the following medicines:

  1. Take a tablet of Ibuprofen 400 mg twice daily for 10 days after food.

  2. Take a tablet of Rabeprazole 20 mg twice daily for 10 days before food.

  3. Take a tablet of Shelcal (Calcium and vitamin D3) 500 mg twice daily before food for 30 days.

  4. Take a tablet of vitamin D 60k units once daily for 10 days, then once a month for 11 months.

Kindly consult a specialist, talk to them, and take medications with their consent. Do not take these tablets if you have bronchial asthma.

I hope this has helped you.

Thank you for consulting me.
