  • The formulation requires an adequate description of the person’s life, and failure to achieve this can provide a causal explanation for human behavior. However, the model is often described as too descriptive and lacks references to personality development throughout the lifespan.

  • The therapy requires the total commitment of the therapist, who in turn needs the complete cooperation of the client. Another limitation of the entire process is that it takes much of one’s time and requires regular CBT sessions.

  • The therapy needs clients to express their anxiety which may initially cause more anxiety and emotional instability. In addition, due to the structured nature of the therapy, it may not be suitable for people with more complex mental health conditions.
