Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My lower abdomen does not hurt, but it is tight. I have been eating hot corn puff snack and spicy chips for the past few days and was drinking pure soda. Could this be the reason? I have been feeling a sharp pain, not too much, but a tiny pain by my belly button and all around in the bottom area. I also feel a little nauseous, as if I am going to vomit, but I do not. And I am kind of scared to vomit.

Will I vomit blood or anything?

What does it mean when I have bloody and watery poop?

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Most likely, it is due to disturbed gastrointestinal flora. Our gut consists of an environment of microorganisms called gut flora. They are responsible for the proper digestion of food. Once this flora is depleted by toxins released by bacteria or due to other factors, many of the gastrointestinal symptoms, like bloating, belching, vomiting, constipation, and loose stools, can be there.

I suggest you take a good probiotic for four weeks. This will again replenish the depleted flora. Once the flora is replenished, intestinal motility and secretions will be improved. Tablet Pantoprazole (40 milligrams once daily before breakfast) can be taken along with it to provide relief. Drink a lot of fluid and electrolytes to replenish the level in blood as sodium and potassium are lost in vomiting and loose motions.

Apart from medicines, some suggestions are-

  1. Eat a lot of fibre in your diet, 30 to 40 grams daily.
  2. Have Ispaghula husk two tablespoons twice daily.
  3. Drink a lot of orange juice and coconut water.
  4. Eat a lot of vegetables and fibrous fruits like oranges and pears.
  5. No smoking or alcohol.
  6. No burger, pizza, or over-fried or spicy food.
  7. Take lots of yoghurt in your diet.
  8. Try this for four weeks and report to me how you feel.

    Thank you.
