Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I recently popped a pimple in my groin area, leaving a small open wound. I am planning to have sex within the next 1-2 days, and I intend to use a condom for protection. Is it safe to proceed in this situation? Also, if a wound clots and closes within a day or two after being popped, is there still a risk of bacteria or viruses entering the wound? Please clarify.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

If the wound is fully healed, and there is no contact with infected secretions or fluids, there should be no risk of HIV transmission. Maintaining wound hygiene (if the wound is still present) is necessary to prevent any site infection. The site may not come into direct contact with infected secretions or blood during protected sexual activity. Using a condom is always an important practice to prevent sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), including HIV.

Hope this information helps you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for replying.

I would like to know how to determine if the wound will remain open. I have attached a picture to show how it looks. Should I wait for a day or two before engaging in sexual activity? What is the healing duration for a wound like this? Please clarify.

Thank you.

Hello ,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The wound does appear to be fresh. If you can take precautions to ensure that it does not come into contact with infected secretions, it should be okay. But, it is better to abstain from sexual activity for a few days (approximately 4 to 7 days) until the wound has healed or become dry. This can help reduce the risk of any potential complications.

Hope this clarifies your query.

Thank you.
