Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My aunt has been diagnosed with wet ARMD. She saw a few eye specialists who recommended different treatment options. Unfortunately, the injection which is recommended is very expensive, and the cost of the treatment varies so much. Therefore, the family is confused as to who to trust. I can send the images of her ophthalmic exams. Your help is appreciated.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. The thing is that wet ARMD (age-related macular degeneration) is only curable with these injections, and that, too not a one time. It is almost every two to three months for a period of average 18 to 24 months in most cases. So, you can opt for Avastin, the cheapest and effective, government injection. At a trust or govt based hospital where charges are nominal. If vision is not much deteriorated, you may wait as well. Dry eyes can be cured with lubricant eye drops four times a day. For follow-up, please send a prescription with her vision details. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Could you please suggest the dosage of Eyelea for ARMD. Thank you.

Answered by Dr. Aditi Dubey

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Eyelea is the brand name of the drug Aflibercept. It comes in a single dosage form vial of potency 0.05 ml / 2mg to be given as a single injection. Follow-up is assessed regarding retina improvement after two months and can be repeated if required. All the best.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
