How to safely treat anal pain while passing stool at home?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 24-year-old male with no past medical history. I have been facing pain while passing stool. The pain ceases after a few hours. But it comes again if I sit for a longer duration. Sometimes, I see small strips of blood on the stool.

I have been sitting in warm water and keeping an ice pack for some days. It does help relieve pain. On examination, I also saw a small fleshy lobe near the anus. I am attaching a picture of the area. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

As I can know from your history, you are suffering from pain while passing stool, and also blood in the stool, you have noticed. I have diagnosed your problem, it looks from your photographs, although it is not very clear, that you are suffering from an anal fissure. May I know if you have occasional constipation, and if you have a more sedentary lifestyle at work?

I suggest incorporating leafy vegetables, salads, a high-fiber diet, and foods like cabbage and spinach to help prevent constipation. Next, you can buy Dabur Isabgul powder and take two teaspoons in one glass of water or milk. You can take it at bedtime, and drink plenty of water. Apply Anovate ointment (Beclomethasone dipropionate) in the raw area where you have pain after passing stool. Get back to me after three days and let us see if it works or not.

Take a hot sitz bath, I mean, you have to sit in a tub of lukewarm water at least three to four times a day. It heals 80% of anal fissures.

I hope this helps.

Kindly revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I have not had constipation. I am an IT professional, and my work does not involve much physical activity. I will follow the sitz bath advice.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

You are an IT professional, so you will be having long hours sitting and a sedentary lifestyle. You need to change your habits. Go for a walk. Have some fruits, leafy vegetables, restrict non-vegetarian food, sit in a tub with lukewarm water, and see the changes in a few days.

Avoid fried food. You can get back to me if the complaints persist.

I hope this helps.

Kindly revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.
