Hello doctor,

A few days back, I faced problem with digestion and constipation. I had frequent bowel movement. But, the stool became tight and I had to pressure it out. Now, I feel pain and inflammation in my rectum and it seems that there is some swelling inside. The irritation gets intensified as the day pass. I feel a constant urge for a bowel movement and discomfort in the abdomen and get some relief when I lie down. I have to work being seated for 4 to 5 hours and so, this problem is much irritating. So, kindly suggest some medicine, which will be helpful to get relief from the pain and for smooth bowel movement. I am a 27 year old male.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com. It seems that your rectal pain might be linked to constipation. To Relieve the constipation, consider using a non-irritative purgative like Movicol (Polyethylene glycol), mixed with a glass of water at bedtime, for a duration of two to three weeks. Additionally, ensure you're not experiencing other factors contributing to constipation, such as insufficient fiber intake, low fluid consumption, hypothyroidism, or low calcium levels. It would be prudent to undergo a thyroid profile, calcium level test, and stool routine examination to rule out these possibilities. Occasionally, a similar bloating sensation can arise from worm infestations. As a suggestion, a single dose of Albendazole 400 mg could be considered. If the issue persists, a colonoscopy may be necessary for further investigation.
