Can appendicitis cause sudden sharp pain in my belly button, or could it be something else?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Yesterday I woke up in the middle of the night and had a sharp pain in my belly button. It was bearable but severe. Today morning it was still there but not severe. My appetite has been normal all day. It has been about 14 hours since the initial stomach pain, with no fever or vomiting, and it has not worsened. Could it be appendicitis?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Pain at the belly button may be due to a urinary tract or bladder infection, or it may be due to appendicitis or small bowel infection. If it is associated with vomiting and fever it may be due to appendicitis. If it is associated with loose stools, means stomach infection. If it is associated with burning micturition, dark-colored urine, means UTI (urinary tract infection). It may be ureteric calculi if it is associated with vomiting and sharp pain with burning micturition.

I suggest:

  1. Drink plenty of water.
  2. Use the tablet Tramadol twice a day for five days.

If symptoms have not improved, please consult your specialist doctor, discuss with them, and take the medicines with their consent.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
