Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My son will be turning three years in the upcoming three months. He is having viral fever currently. The doctor prescribed Meftal-P and Cruxol-170. Even after giving Meftal-P, the fever is not coming down and or coming down very slowly. After 2 hours of giving Meftal-P, the fever came down from 103.3 to 101.5.

Can I use Cruxol -170 for 1 or 2 hours after giving Meftal-P?

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

1. You will not be able to use any fever medications for the next six hours of using Meftal-P (Mefenamic acid). You can do tepid sponging to reduce the fever. If the temperature is 100 degree Fahrenheit or more, you can give syrup Crocin DS (240 milligrams) (dose as per the weight of the child) SOS four to six hourly.

2. If the temperature is 102 degree Fahrenheit or more, you can give syrup Ibugesic Plus (dose as per the weight of the child) SOS six to eight hourly.

3. If the temperature stays above 100 degree Fahrenheit for more than three days or if the temperature crosses 103 Fahrenheit, it is advisable to get evaluated physically by a pediatrician with possible blood investigations.

Thank you.
