Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

About four weeks ago, I hurt my back, lifting weights. I went to my chiropractor, who has never been wrong in 12 years. He assures me there is no disk rupture. I forget what he calls it; some joint failure. He would not call it a sprain. I have pain seemingly originating a couple to three inches to the right of the center of my back. Sometimes, it radiates from that point, through my right buttock and around to my hip. It is hard to tell where the facet joint and disk end and where a sacroiliac ligament attachment begins. Inversion and stretching seem to help a bit, but then the muscles clamp back down, causing pain. Can a torn ligament in the area I describe cause the symptoms I am relaying? Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

From the location of the dot, it looks like it is your sacroiliac joint. However, it can also be a muscle strain, a tear of a muscle, or a ligament. Treatment in the acute phase is more or less the same with rest, ice application, muscle relaxants, myofascial release, and anti-inflammatory tablets that can be safely taken off if you are not diabetic and if your creatine (kidney function) is normal. You can also apply anti-inflammatory gels and take regular Paracetamol and Tramadol (Tramadol hydrochloride) if pain strikes in between. I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
