Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 30-year-old female. I have been suffering from obesity since 13 years of age. I have several health issues like polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD), high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and depression. I have been trying various methods to lose weight for the past six years like CrossFit, gym, intermittent fasting, having a calorie deficit diet, etc. But I have been gaining weight rather than reducing it. I came across the term bariatric surgery recently. How can it help in weight loss? I researched it online, but I am not sure whether it is safe or has side effects. So I would like to know the pros and cons of this surgery and the eligibility criteria for the surgery.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
If your health is fine and you do not have diabetes, hypertension, etc., bariatric surgery is safe in expert hands. If you have any of these, they should be well controlled under the supervision of a surgeon. The pros are it helps reduce blood pressure, cholesterol, and depression. Take care.
Thank you.
