Why do my gums bleed when I bite apples or hard foods?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My gums are bleeding whenever I bite into an apple or other hard food items.

Any medicine for me?

Please suggest.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and can understand your concern.

There can be several reasons for gum bleeding, like calculus due to poor oral hygiene, high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, traumatic ulcer, and excessive spitting. These causes often lead to gingival inflammation, which causes blood to ooze out on mild stimulation by brushing (hard brush), gargling, or taking hot liquids like coffee, tea, etc.

Your chief complaint is incomplete without an attachment photo of your oral cavity and any medical history. You can forward that in the future, but I am sure your problems will be solved by following this treatment protocol of medications. Tablet Ordent (Ofloxacin Ornidazole) BD for five days. Mouthwash Hexidine BD after cleansing the mouth for 15 days. It will reduce inflammation and relieve your problem. These are symptomatic measures, but for further evaluation, you are requested to send attachments with full history details.

I hope this answers your query.

Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you.
